Location Specific Management InformationAnguilla (Lesser Antilles) An unsuccessful eradication project took place in 1999 (Hodge, K., pers comm. 2003 in Varnham, 2006). The 1997 Report on Conservation of Lesser Antillean iguanas recommends removing from the wild all common iguanas caught in the future, and to take measures to prevent the import of common iguanas and the release of those present into the wild (Gerber, 1997 in Varnham, 2006). Grand Cayman (Cayman Islands) Education efforts are part of the Blue Iguana Recovery Programme's awareness activities (National Trust for the Cayman Islands). Specimens found in Cyclura lewisi habitats are trapped and removed (Burton, 2003 in Varnham, 2006). Luis Munoz Marin International Airport (Greater Antilles) It has been suggested that the removal of vegetative cover near the airfield would help deter iguana basking on the runway of the Luis Munoz Marin International Airport (SJU) in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Martinique (Lesser Antilles) The prefectorial order No. 050589 dated February 28, 2005, authorizes the destruction of individuals of the species Iguana Iguana to prevent the serious damage it might cause to the native fauna of Martinique.
