General Impact
Can act as a host for maize streak virus. Competes with native plant species. Alters the fire regime in areas of northern Australia, increasing the effect of bushfires. Has the potential to be a seed contaminant.
Location Specific Impacts:Northern Territory (Australia) Modification of fire regime: Mission grass is partly responsible for the great increase in the fuel loading in parts of the Northern Territory, resulting in an increased fire risk. This results in the number of trees being reduced over time and the conversion of forest to grassland. Fiji Agricultural: Infests crops, resulting in low yields
