Location Specific Impacts:Spain Predation: The 'Critically Endangered (CR)' Balearic Shearwater (Puffinus mauretanicus) has a small breeding range and a small population which is in severe decline. It breeds exclusively in the Balearic Islands, Spain, where
colonies are distributed throughout the 5 main island groups of the archipelago (Menorca, Mallorca, Cabrera, Ibiza and Formentera). One of the two major threats is predation of birds by introduced mammals feral cats (Felis catus), pine martens (Martes martes) and genets (Genetta genetta); the other is fisheries bycatch (Birdlife International 2010; Arcos 2011).
