    Herbivory: The most important impact is due to the direct action of white-tailed deer. Odocoileus virginianus has very serious impacts on forest regeneration, particularly that of balsam (Abies balsamea), which may be compromised when densities of this game animal exceed the capacity of the environment to cope. The situation is now critical in some sectors. It is one of the most serious threats to biodiversity in the archipelago (Muller, 2006).
