    Holcus lanatus is an herbaceous perennial originating from Europe. It is a common weed of crops and pasture. Introduced to many regions of the world, it is invasive in some. In Hawaii, it is naturalized in pastures, grasslands, shrublands and roadsides at altitudes from 760m to 3250m. It limits the installation and development of native plants. It is also one of the most invasive grasses on the island of La Réunion where it can form dense monospecific thickets which exclude native species.

    natural forests, planted forests, riparian zones, ruderal/disturbed, scrub/shrublands

    Native range: Europe.
    Known introduced range: Hawaii, New Zealand, La Réunion, French Southern Territories (PIER, 2007).
