With its rapid growth, it can quickly form dense stands, particularly in wetlands, and alter the habitat for certain species of birds. It may compete with fodder crops in pastures near the coast or with native plants in marshes. Occurs in: riparian zones, wetlands Geographical range Native range: Native of India, south China, throughout Malaysia, South to Australia. Known introduced range: Introduced throughout the Pacific islands (Micronesia, Guam, Hawaii, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, New Caledonia, Palau,…) (PIER, 2006)
