A native of Central America, this shrub is now naturalised and invasive in many tropical countries, including West Africa and several Pacific islands. Occurs in: natural forests, ruderal/disturbed Geographical range Native range: Tropical America. Known introduced range: French Polynesia, Hawaii, New Caledonia, Tonga, La Réunion, Mauritius Is., Seychelles Islands (PIER, 2006).
