    Organism type: insect
    The beetle, Hoplochelus marginalis, is common in La Réunion since its introduction in 1970. In a few years, it invaded the entire island to 1000 metres above sea level, causing extensive damage to sugar-cane fields and destroying native plants.

    Native range:Hoplochelus marginalis is endemic to Madagascar.
    Known introduced range: The species has been introduced to La Réunion where it is very common.
