Nielsen Common names: batai, bataiwood, Molucca albizia, Moluccan sau Organism type: tree Falcataria moluccana is a fast-growing tree, which can reach 40 metres in height and has been widely planted in the tropics. Able to colonise indigenous forest ecosystems, Falcataria moluccana is regarded in many countries as one of the greatest threats to native flora. Occurs in: natural forests, planted forests, ruderal/disturbed Geographical range Native range: Native to Moluccas, New Guinea, New Britain and the Solomon Islands. Known introduced range: Falcataria moluccana has been planted for reforestation in many contries (Wagner et al., 1999; PIER, 2007).
