    Bubo virginianus was intentionally introduced to Hiva Oa in French Polynesia to combat rats. This bird of prey has affected all native birds on the island.

    coastland, natural forests, range/grasslands, scrub/shrublands
    Geographical range
    Native range : Native to North America
    Known introduced range: Introduced in French Polynesia (Holyoak and Jones, 1984).
