Cestrum nocturnum was described as naturalised at Tamaterau near Whangarei by Webb et al. (1988). Williams (2008) writes that while C. nocturnum is not yet recognised as a pest species in the Northland Region (see management notes for this location), as it has only been naturalised since the 1980s, its full invasive potential has yet to be reached.
While Cestrum nocturnum has not been included in the Northland Regional Pest Management Strategy, it has been included as a species that may need to be included in a report by Williams (2008). It was given a Biological Success rating of 11 (out of 21) and a score of 9 (out of 24) on Esler's Index of Weediness (Williams, 2008). C. nocturnum is also reported to have been once widely sold but now prohibited (Williams, 2008).
人類健康: Connor (1977) reported the non-fatal poisoning of a child by an unspecified Cestrum species. Williams (2008) states that C. nocturnum is capable of causing hay-fever like symptoms in humans but that no reports to the National Poisoning Centre have been made since 2002.
競爭: Williams (2008) states that Cestrum nocturnum may occupy space which could otherwise be used by native species.
經濟 /民生: All parts of Cestrum spp. Including Cestrum nocturnum have been reported as poisonous and capable of resulting in the death of livestock (Connor, 1977).
