    Introduced into Australia from the UK for angling/sport (FishBase, 2003).
    Management Notes for this Location:
    Native Fish Australia is urging the NSW Government to limit its stocking of lakes and rivers with imported trout because they destroy local fish and frog species, and river ecosystems. Stocking is now being reviewed in an environmental impact statement (Yallop, R., The Australian, 2004).
    Location Notes:
    NSW Fisheries last year put 4.4million trout into the state's rivers and lakes, mainly for recreational fishermen (Yallop, R., The Australian, 2004).
    Impacts:
    Predation: The impact of predation by brown trout on many native species, especially representatives of the family galaxiidae, has been severe ( M. Allen 2002, Field guide to the freshwater fishes of Australia).
