    An early taxonomic description of D. geminata lists records from Spitsbergen (Norway), Scotland, Ireland, Sweden, Finland, France, Spain, Switzerland and Vancouver Island (Cleve, 1894-1896). It is therefore assumed to be indigenous to these countries.
