Details of this species in Galapagos Islands Status: Alien Invasiveness: Invasive Occurrence: Absent Source: Borrero et al. 2009 Arrival Date: Introduction: Species Notes for this Location: Guayaquil, where the species has also been reported, is both the main harbor and airport for shipment of goods to the Galápagos. Management Notes for this Location:
Impacts: Reduction in native biodiversity: It has been estimated that more than a third of the endemic species of Orthalicidae in the Galapagos have become extinct during the last half century, in part due to the introduction of alien species (Coppois 1995, Parent & Smith 2006, in Borrero et al. 2009). From a conservation viewpoint, the presence of A. fulica in western Ecuador may be considered a major threat to "Darwin‘s Laboratory" (Borrero et al. 2009). Last Modified: 9/03/2010 4:28:22 p.m.
