    Bequaert (1950a, in Raut & Barker 2002) considered A. fulica to be an introduction to Madagascar. A. fulica was introduced to Madagascar prior to 1800 from Kenya but was not accepted as an edible species (Raut & Barker 2002).

    In 1962 the predatory rosy wolfsnail (Euglandina rosea) was introduced into Madagascar to control A. fulica. Non-target impacts included the consumption of native snails (Hoddle 2004).

    Impacts:
    Agricole: It has assumed pest status through damage to crops (Barker 2002). It potentially feeds on a range of crops.
    Prédation: Introduction of putatative biocontrol agents for A. fulica may lead to predation on non-target species (secondary or indirect impact).
