    An occasional but major weed in riverine and moist shady areas of Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, Lord Howe Island, and southern Western Australia. The plant dominates the banks of the Tambo River in Victoria and is spreading on a number of NSW rivers, especially the Towamba River in SE NSW. Known also from ephemeral creeks in rural residential areas surrounding the ACT.
    V. major does not usually produce seeds in Australia (ESC, UNDATED)
