Details of this species in U Minh Thuong Nature Reserve Status: Alien Invasiveness: Invasive Occurrence: Eradicated Source: Triet et al. Undated Arrival Date: 2000 Introduction: Unintentional (accidentally) Species Notes for this Location: In U Minh Thuong National Park, Vietnam, invasion by Mimosa pigra was detected early. In 2000, mimosa was found in two small spots with a total area of less than one hectare (Triet 2001, in Triet et al Undated). Mimosa seeds were probably brought into the site in construction sands. Management Notes for this Location: The infested areas were quickly treated by manual methods (hand pulling and stem cutting). Park management established a weed control team, which has been patrolling the park once a month since then to monitor mimosa and other important environmental weeds. The weed was eradicated at little cost, highlighting the importance of invasion awareness and early intervention for mimosa control. Last Modified: 31/05/2006 3:32:57 p.m.
