Details of this species in Tasman District Status: Alien Invasiveness: Invasive Occurrence: Reported Source: TDC, 2001 Arrival Date: Introduction: Species Notes for this Location: There are numerous infestations of L. major in garden and farm ponds in Tasman and Golden Bay. TDC (2001) observes that L. major poses a threat to the rivers and lakes of the Tasman-Nelson region. Management Notes for this Location: L. major has been designated as a 'Progressive control pest' by the the Tasman-Nelson Regional Pest Management Strategy. The strategy has its effect over the combined area that lies within the administrative boundaries of the Tasman District Council and Nelson City Council. The objectives of the strategy is to a) focus on educating the public and continuing to investigate effective control methods for existing infestations; and to b) prevent its spread into any new waterbodies in the Tasman-Nelson region during the term of the Strategy.
