    Black rat, Rattus rattus, which most prabably arrived on vessels is present on Grand Cayman, Little Cayman and Cayman Brac (Morgan, 1994 in Varnham, 2006), especially in forested areas including otherwise undisturbed dry forests (Burton, 2003 in Varnham, 2006).

    Environmental Health Section of the Government maintains a rodent control program (Morgan, 1994 in Varnham, 2006) in populated areas only.

    Reduction in native biodiversity: Black rat, Rattus rattus, is implicated in the extinction of a number of native species of small mammals, birds and reptiles (Morgan, 1994 in Varnham, 2006).
