Details of this species in Pennsylvania Status: Alien Invasiveness: Invasive Occurrence: Eradicated Source: Nico, 2007 Arrival Date: Introduction: Intentional Species Notes for this Location: Oreochromis aureus is established in warm water effluents of the Susquehanna River after escaping from Pennsylvania Power and Lights Brunner Island Aquaculture Facility, where they appear to survive low winter temperatures by congregating in thermal effluents (Stauffer et al. 1988; Nico, 2007). Management Notes for this Location: Oreochromis aureus populations of Brunner Island were eradicated in 1986, when condenser cooling water was deliberately and temporarily released at lethal, low temperature. One study recommended the temperature be brought to 5°C for 16 hours to effectively eradicate O. aureus (Nico, 2007; Stauffer et al. 1988) Last Modified: 24/04/2008 4:08:40 p.m.
