    Carpobrotus edulis was introduced to Portugal for dune stabilisation and erosion control. It has greatly dispersed throughout Portugese sand dunes, affecting the natural succession and ecological processes by changing species composition. The native fauna may disperse C. edulis in Portugal as the fleshy fruits of the plant are edible.
