    Ochlerotatus atropalpus

Ochlerotatus atropalpus closely resembles Ochlerotatus j. japonicus in general body shape but can be easily separated under a microscope by their head hairs and the diffenence in spiculation on the anal saddle (Scott, 2004).
    Ochlerotatus triseriatus

Ochlerotatus triseriatus larvae are darker in color, have an elongate body shape, and possess a characteristic serpentine motion. Ochlerotatus triseriatus also have much smaller gills than Ochlerotatus j. japonicus, and the ventral pair is shorter than the dorsal pair (Scott, 2004).
