Who we work with

We work with government and Non-government organisations, community-based groups and PILN Team members working in the Pacific Islands and Territories. We provide support and assist these agencies with the planning and implementation of their invasive species management projects. Table of agencies PII has been or is supporting.

Where we work

Projects which PII has been or continue to be involved with are being implemented in various Pacific Island Countries and Territories by local agencies, in collaboration with communities and other stakeholders. View Map

Types of Projects[back to top]

Projects should have a biodiversity and livelihood component, raise awareness of, generate support for, and build capacity for invasive species management. A range of invasive species are being tackled by the various projects, which are in various stages of planning and implementation.

PII's Role in Projects[back to top]

Projects are an excellent means for capacity building as they provide a “learning by doing” experience which allows agencies to directly experience and apply the knowledge acquired. Skill-sharing through projects has been found to be an effective way to transfer knowledge, experience and skills and to develop necessary expertise at the local level.

Projects are a great vehicle for raising awareness of the negative effects of invasive species on biodiversity and livelihoods, generating support for their management and improving the capacity of agencies and communities to manage invasive species. They not only provide lessons for future initiatives but they also show that invasive species can be managed in the Pacific.

Project Process[back to top]

PII has developed a Project Development and Implementation Process which we recommend agencies to follow as adequate planning is essential to minimise the risk of failure and increase the chances of success of a project.

Each stage of the Project Process is an opportunity for PII to enhance the capacity of the implementing agency and other stakeholders involved in the project to effectively plan for and manage invasive species projects.
